Run Stronger, Feel Confident, and Stay Injury-Free During Half Marathon Training

Get the proven system, expert coaching, and supportive community that helps you crush 13.1

Team Healthy Runner Half Marathon Coaching

Getting faster, feeling balanced, and showing your family what's possible all start with one thing: staying healthy enough to run consistently.

If you’re like most everyday runners, you’ve probably felt stuck: the nagging injuries, the frustration of slowing down with age, or the constant confusion of piecing together random half marathon plans and advice.

That cycle leaves you second-guessing every step and wondering if running is even sustainable long-term.

But here’s the truth: you’re not broken, and you’re not too old. You just need the right system...one that’s designed for runners like you.

Inside the Team Healthy Runner Half Marathon Coaching, you’ll finally have the structure, expert coaching, and supportive community to take you from frustrated and inconsistent… to confident, strong, and running pain-free at any age.

Imagine waking up excited to train for your half marathon because you trust your plan. Running without the fear that every ache means another setback. Crossing the finish line proud, strong, and knowing you’ve set the example of health and resilience for your family.

That’s what’s possible when you stop guessing and start training smarter.

Are you...

  • Frustrated by nagging injuries that seem to come back every training cycle?

  • Wondering if you’re too old to get faster — or if your body just isn’t built for half marathon running anymore?

  • Overwhelmed by all the advice online, unsure which exercises or half marathon plans will actually work for you?

  • Discouraged by the thought that every time you ramp up to 13.1, the same injury might return?

Ready to stop overthinking and start making real progress?

I'VE BEEN THERE.

Hey there! I’m Duane — an everyday runner, running physical therapist, and coach with over 23 years of experience.

I created Team Healthy Runner Half Marathon coaching because I saw the same problem over and over again: runners were told to “just run more miles” or “take time off” when they got injured. But nobody was giving them a clear, step-by-step system to stay healthy, build strength, and actually enjoy running for life.

The truth is, most half marathon training plans only tell you how far or how fast to run. They don’t teach you how to prevent injuries, recover smarter, or balance strength, nutrition, and mindset — all the things that actually keep you running strong as you get older. That’s the gap this training program fills.

I know this because I lived it. I didn’t grow up a runner — I became one in my 30s. Like many adult-onset runners, I jumped in with big goals and little guidance. The result? A constant cycle of injuries — hamstring tendinopathy, runner’s knee, achilles pain, plantar fasciitis. I pushed too hard, got discouraged, and wondered if maybe I just wasn’t “built to run.”

But everything changed when I discovered the one truth most runners never hear:

Once I mastered the 6 key elements of smart training — mindset, strength, a structured run plan, proper nutrition, recovery, and race strategy — I finally broke the injury cycle.

Today, I’ve run 37 half marathons and 7 marathons injury-free, and more importantly, I now enjoy my mental clearing miles year-round without fear of setbacks in my mid 40’s!

For nearly two decades, I balanced my faculty role as a Clinical Associate Professor of Physical Therapy with coaching runners and creating resources through the Healthy Runner podcast and YouTube videos. But the more runners I helped, the clearer it became: this is what I was meant to do. So, I made the leap to serve the running community full-time because helping runners thrive is my greatest passion.

That’s why I built the Team Healthy Runner Coaching: to give you the proven roadmap and support system I wish I had when I started. Inside, you’ll learn how to train smarter, avoid the endless injury-rest-repeat cycle, and finally feel confident chasing your half marathon race goals at any age.

If you see yourself in my story, this is your moment to make the shift too.

No matter where you are in your half marathon journey, if you’re frustrated by slow progress, stuck on how to get faster, or worried about staying healthy as you get older you don’t have to figure it out alone.

Imagine if you could...

Don't have time for 60 minutes of strength training?  We have adapted a 30 minute version to just give you the exercises you need for running your best!

I am terrible with technology, will I be able to do this?

Yes!  Our coaching team will personally walk you step by step through everything to get started.  You've got this!

I am not an experienced runner, can I still do this?

Absolutely!  We have helped many beginners run their first half marathon with this program.

Matter of fact we love seeing you crush 13.1 for the first time and guide you each and every step of the way.

I am just coming off an injury, should I still join?

This is what separates this program from all other half marathon training plans!  You will have a doctor of physical therapy on call!

You will have running injury expert, Dr. Duane Scotti design your running plan and guide you each step of the way to bridge the gap from your rehab into your half marathon training program.

If you are not sure if you are ready based on your injury and recovery, drop Dr. Duane a message through Facebook messenger, Instagram DM @sparkhealthyrunner, or email (duane@sparkhealthyrunner.com) to find out if this program is right based upon your current situation.  If you require more personalized support and direction then you may be more appropriate for our signature 1-on-1 healthy runner coaching program instead of this group based coaching program.

What is covered in the workouts?

We are 100% focused on helping you get stronger as a runner so you can continue getting in your mental clearing miles.

This program will guide you to implement run specific exercises to adopt a new level of confidence and strength with your running.

Next, We'll help you understand the importance of implementing strength exercises into your training so you can take control over your health as a runner.

Each workout will include a 5 minute dynamic warmup, foam rolling exercises for your top 5 running muscles, 60 (or 30) minute total body strength based workout, and stretching exercises to cool down.

This is a no-judgement, no-excuses program, centered on moving you toward complete control of your health regardless of where you're starting.

Duane, I have never worked out before, can I still join?

Absolutely.  The first half of the program is focused on building your foundation and will get your strength dialed in like you never experienced.

I also provide you options for each exercise to make it harder or easier depending on your level of fitness.

The workouts will be challenge for you  whether you are a beginner or have been exercising in the gym for 20 years like myself.

You may even come out of it with some ideas of how to shake up your current workout routine that you've been wanting to do for years...

What equipment do I need? Do I need to go to a gym?

Not much!  These workouts were designed to be done in your home but you can also do them in a gym.

If you can get your hands on a pair of lighter dumbells and 1 heavier dumbell or kettlebell that will be helpful.  However, as you will see in the videos, I have been creative and used a Home Depot bucket and filled it with bricks as well as using a maul axe as a kettlebell since I couldn't get my hands on one at the onset of COVID during the BETA program in 2020.

Other equipment that I would recommend is a foam roller, set of resistance tubing with handles, exercise miniband (for those important hip muscles), and a yoga or exercise ball.

If you do not have one of these pieces of equipment that is o.k. I give you options to do alternative exercises.

I also give you options if you have access to a pullup bar, TRX straps, and a "Reebok" Step.

The key to getting stronger as a runner is leveraging your body weight as resistance and training on one leg (like you are when you run)... This will add a SPARK to your muscles and improve your confidence and strength for your runs so you legs won't feel so heavy.

What happens when the program ends?

You will get ongoing access to the Healthy Runner Strength Program and all content for the remainder of the year.

You will also continue to have access to our community.  You will be able to watch all previous in depth exclusive trainings by our coaching team after the 12 week period. However, no new content will be added after the 12 week training period.

If you love your progress so much and you want to continue working on your next running goal with the guidance your Healthy Runner coach, we do offer continuity options with our 1-on-1 signature healthy runner coaching program or membership into the Healthy Runner Academy (pending availability).

I can't afford $297 right now, but I REALLY need this, do you have any payment plans?

Yes! I've added a 3-month payment plan (see the top of this page) to make it an easy choice.

What's your refund policy?

I'll give you 2 full weeks (check out your custom run plan built for you and complete 3 strength sessions) to try out the program. If you are not satisfied that this program will get you to your half marathon goals and decide it's not for you, I'll be happy to give you a full refund. Just send an email to duane@sparkhealthyrunner.com and we'll get you taken care of.

Rachel Pelham Serafino

"Joining Team Healthy Runner half marathon training program - I definitely got my spark back for running! It was great to have the support of a PT throughout training to address whenever something came up (like my stubborn IT band pain), and it was great to be a part of a community of like-minded runners during the training cycle. Duane and his coaches checked in regularly and made sure we had what we needed to succeed.  Very much looking forward to training again with Team Healthy Runner for a spring half marathon!"

Nivian Pickett

"Joining Team Healthy runner allowed me to stay accountable to my goal of running my 1st half marathon.  Prior to me joining this team, I was training on my own but was suffering from weaker hips, tight hamstrings and calves. The coaches advice and helpful videos allowed to me learn what areas I needed to strengthen in order to sustain the high mileage training I was undertaking. Because of these resources I was able to run my first half marathon pain free due to the smarter and more efficient approach to my training!"

A few more people who thought Healthy Runner Coaching was half decent...

Annie Wang

I can’t thank Duane and his coaching team enough, especially coach Lu, for helping me fulfill my running dreams!!!  I have participated in the Healthy Runner Coaching Program twice now and all the coaches were very supportive. Coach Lu would adjust the training plan to my schedule which made it easier for me to follow. Duane’s strength training helped me to get stronger so I can run faster without injury

Coach Lu’s knowledge, tips, strategies and support not just helped me finish my half marathon but crushed my goal!  I recommend the Healthy Runner coaching program 100% if you want to take your running to the next level. Just be consistent and trust the process, you will crush your next race with this team!

Charlene Lee

I had an incredible experience working with Coach LaToya and the Spark Healthy Runner team! Prior to joining the program, I had been running recreationally for 3 years, but knew little about how to incorporate strength training with my running.

The structure and strength training were invaluable, and I completed my training cycle without injuries! My schedule was personalized, and Coach LaToya was available to answer questions and walk me through any setbacks. For instance, when I got sick halfway through the training cycle, she helped me pivot and adjust my schedule. Her encouragement, support, and accountability were invaluable, and I was able to cut 6 minutes from my last half marathon! I also won a prize for having the fastest time in my group, which was a surprise.

Also, wanted to add - Coach Duane Scotti was very helpful when I was first considering joining the program. He took the time to jump on a free, one-on-one call, and was knowledgeable, thoughtful, and kind.

I highly recommend working with the Spark Healthy Runner team. Working with them, coupled with their resources from the Healthy runner podcast, were invaluable, and instrumental to me growing as a runner.

Mark Vece

I started running 4 years ago at the age of 40 and I fell in love with it. But I was always getting injured and any progress I made immediately stopped. I contacted Coach Duane and he immediately found the problem and prescribed a very detailed strength program and running program to help me reach my goal of running a half marathon. I am very happy to say that this past weekend I ran a sub 2 hour half marathon. I will recommend this program to any runner.

Katja Livingston

My Healthy Runner journey included a training plan that was tailored to me included specific exercises as It took patience to only run slow for a few weeks but I trusted the process and it got me me to where I am now!

I just ran my second half marathon, both with Duane’s coaching, and PR’d by over 9 minutes! I got all choked up in the last mile when I realized that I felt strong and could still kick it up a notch.

I’m so thankful for the Healthy Runner program, community and the entire coaching team for all the support!

Gina James

You can teach an old dog new tricks!!!  I have never considered myself a runner and I knew I needed to be smart about it because I am no spring chicken. Spark preached getting strong and healthy to be injury free and they practice what they preach.  I am soooo glad I made the investment in me!  I finished my half marathon last weekend and couldn’t be any happier!  The program fed me all the steps I needed to essentially learn how to run long distance, build strength, nutrition help, a forum of other runners.  I had no idea how to tackle training for a 1/2 marathon and this program broke all of it down to make sure I was staying healthy and strong. The biggest benefit I think I got was the strength. I am strong and fit. But most important was what I gained emotionally.  I built confidence and strength I didn’t know I had, even at my age.  Honestly could not have done this without Spark Healthy Runners!

Dan Acosta

I started running in February of 2022 and between February and July it felt like I was consistently in the injury cycle every 3-4 weeks from doing too much, too fast, too soon. I hurt myself 1 week before my first 10k.

Coach Cat was tasked with helping me get me ready for my first half marathon, double the longest runs I was doing!

I got through the training, healthy and injury free and got through the half marathon feeling strong and steady! Can’t wait to continue these practices on my own. And I’ll definitely be looking for their guidance when I move up to a full marathon in the future!
